One
of the oldest X-ray machines in the city was installed in the Institute. A very
modern radiology department with facility for sophisticated cerebral angiography,
pneumoencephalography, air ventriculography, myelography etc. was established
in 1954, long before it was started in the Neurosurgery Department in Rajendra Medical
College, Ranchi.
This
department has been renovated in 1997 by acquiring MES 100 Ma X-Ray Machine,
Radiograph of various body part were carried out by the same. In 2002, another
X-Ray Machine Allengers 300Ma Machine was installed.
In
2003, Transcranial Doppler Machine (DWL System) was installed in this
department. Since then clinical works and various dissertation study is going
on till now. Five research works has been since completed using the Doppler.
In
2006, ultrasound and Colour Doppler Machine (Philips) was installed. Since then
clinical works are going on regularly in this machine till now.
C.T. Scan Machine, Siemens Emotion 16 (16 Slice Spiral CT
Scanner Machine) has been installed in 2008. Since February, 2008 clinical and
research works have started with this machine. A regular radiologist has joined
as Assistant Professor in this Department on 21.10.2008 and since then have
been doing clinical, academic working. This CT Scan machine, is equipped to
perform, CT Angio, CT Guided intervention and phasic studies with contrast
agent .With USU machine we can perform colour Doppler study of various body
parts, (Carotid, Abdominal, peripheral etc.) and also USU guided intervention
In
this year, 2008 till now we have performed about 270 radiographs and 90
abdominal ultrasound study. We have performed about 65 CT Scans of various body
parts, (plain and contrast).
We are also planning to install a digital
X-Ray machine and 3 Tesla MRI machine. The MRI facilities will enable in to do
structural as well as functional imaging along with Spectroscopy studies, which
is very much essential for clinical and various research activities in
Neurology and Psychiatry.
